Today over at Rocks In My Dryer is the Backwards Edition of Works-for-me Wednesday where I ask a question and hope to gain many insightful answers.
My question for all my bloggy friends out there is this, we are taking a trip to Kansas City in May for Husband to take some continuing education courses. We will be there for 4 or 5 days and so I am wondering from all of you out there what actitvities you would recommend that we do. D-Man and I are going to be without Daddy during the day for 2 of the days, so some activities that are good for Mommy and Son would be great!
So my bloggy friends, suggest away and for other great questions and answers, click here.

We loved the Steamboat Arabia Museum (an old steamboat that was found buried in a farmer's field - they got all the old treasures out of it and made it into a museum)..it was carrying goods for an old frontier type store I think...
Must go get Arthur Bryants BBQ!!!!
I love the zoo, it is like you aren't even in Missouri anymore. Enjoy KC! (If you can eat at Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ & order the baked beans, they will change your life!)
I'm actually flying to Kansas City tonight (my parents live there). We always love going into downtown Kansas City to walk around. There are all kinds of restaurants, shops, theaters, etc. You definitely do have to try the BBQ as well. It's amazing!
Walk around the Plaza. Go to the Negro league & Jazz museum. They're great!
My daughter loved the Crayola store at the Crown Plaza.
I loved shopping at The Plaza!
Our neighbors, whose name rhymes with Rumgartner, went there (I think) a couple of Summer's ago and had a great time. I'll ask them what they would suggest and let you know.
The Kansas City zoo is definitely worth seeing! And there's an IMAX theater at the zoo, so depending on what's playing, your little dude might really like that.
We're going to Kansas City in April for a wedding, and we plan to hit up the children's museum there.
Loved reading the other suggestions.
The Plaza, Crown Center. If you get a chance Legends West out by the Kansas Speedway has a really cool dinosaur restaurant. Pricey, but cool for kids. Independence has the Harry Truman Library and at one time was considered "the crossroads of America" because of all the wagon trains that left from here.
And you do have to try the BBQ. But I like Smokehouse BBQ over across from the Independence Center (which is a mall).
Oh, and the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum is free. :)
Hugs,
Melinda
I don't know if you are familiar with "The Cheesecake Factory," but they make some wicked awesome carrotcake cheesecake that I would definitely recommend.
I actually live in Kansas City. The T-Rex at the Legends is cool but very over priced. However you do not have to eat there to go walk around inside. Also at the Legends is the Great Wolf lodge, an indoor outdoor water park and Cabela's which is an outdoor store but has a lot of stuffed animals in scenes. It is my children's favorite place to go. Crown Center is one of our favorite places to go as a family, they have the Crayola store, and Fritz. It is a hamburger place that looks like the inside of a train. And a train brings the food to your table. The kids LOVE it. And Crown Center hooks to Union Station which is neat to just go in and walk around, but also has Science City. Then there is always Worlds of Fun.
