Works-for-me Wednesday: Helping New Parents

Lately in our Sunday School class, many people have been having babies. Therefore, being our Sunday School class director (not sure how I got the title or the job), I organize the "meals list" for our class. Below you will see a meal that works-for-me when I am signed up to bring food.

Basicall, it consists of bringing meals to the new family for 7 days. One of my absolute favorite things to bring on my meal day is chicken spaghetti, salad, bread and chocolate no-bake cookies. I also like to throw in a can of cinnamon rolls or a package of muffin mix so that they have something for a 2nd meal as well. And the number one biggest thing I always remember to do is to put all the food in throw-away containers so that the new parents don't have to remember what Pyrex dish goes to which family after they are finished with the food.

Not a very interesting works-for-me tip, but one that I know certainly helped us back when D-Man was born.

I'm so with you on the disposable containers! It's a hassle to lug bags of dishes to church and then track the owners down (if they happened to be there that day!). I also like to give a nice complete meal, hopefully enough for a 2nd meal the following night. And desert is a must for me as well. But I hadn't thought of adding a little breakfast item too. Hmmmmm.....maybe next time! :)

What a good program to have. It is such a busy time after having a baby and having your meals already taken care of is one less worry.

I totally agree about the disposable containers, too! That was a huge source of stress to me after I had my daughter, trying to find the owners. And wow! Seven days of meals is great!

I'm with you on the disposable containers as well! Whether it's new baby or funeral, who wants to deal with returning dishes!!!

Good tip about the disposable containers. I just took dinner over to a neighbor and I didn't have any on hand. I need to stock up on a couple of those.
And good for you for being the Sunday School director!
(can you post you chx spaghetti recipe?)

That is so sweet that you guys do that! We didn't get meals after having our babies and it was difficult. We'd forget to eat or end up getting junk food since we were too tired! Brings tears to my eyes to think of your servanthood. You're definitely blessing those families!

Heck, they're probably all getting pregnant because they know great food is coming their way! Wink, wink!

Oh, man, I love the free new baby meals.

I am thinking about getting pregnant again just so I can get me some free churchlady food.
